Choir Trips
The Central Choirs travel to New York City every three years as an enrichment opportunity for the hard-working musicians in our programs. This trip is optional and funded individually. Due to the ongoing Coronavirus Pandemic, our rotation has been pushed back a few years. The DC Marching Band will travel during the 2022-2023 school year and the next choir trip to NYC will take place in May of 2024. Additionally, Central Singers, Inc. travels to compete on the national level on the year opposite Band and Marching Band. They will plan to travel to Florida in March of 2026.
While not much else is known about any future itinerary, past trips to New York have included sightseeing at many historic and iconic locales. Highlights of trips in 2016 and 2019 included The Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, The 9/11 Museum and Memorial, Top of The Rock Observation Deck, shopping in Times Square and along 5th Avenue, TWO Broadway musicals, Chinatown, Little Italy, the Empire State Building, a dinner cruise on the Hudson, and the Brooklyn Bridge. Musicals seen on Broadway in the past include Dear Evan Hansen, Come From Away, Wicked, and Finding Neverland.
Fundraising is continually offered in the music programs at CHS and we hope that all Central musicians will consider traveling with us regardless of monetary limitations. Scholarships are often available and students need only ask their directors about an application. Traveling to places like these with your classmates and friends is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity, and we want NO ONE to miss out!
For any students wishing to travel abroad, there are travel opportunities for committed high school musicians. The Iowa Ambassadors of Music travel to Europe every other year. Currently, several DC musicians are planning to tour Europe in the summer of 2023 with the statewide choir. For more information, contact Mr. Keller.
